John Fildes, Ph.D.
John Fildes, Ph.D. is a scientist with decades of experience in providing expert investigations and deposition and trial testimony in litigation cases. His investigation span cases from straightforward workplace accidents through complex multidisciplinary failures involving tens of millions dollars of loss potential. John's investigations have changed the nature and course of the expert investigations in many cases and his investigations have substantially contributed to all clients having successfully resolved their disputes. Clients see John as broadly knowledgable, highly credentialed and experienced, approachable, an excellent communicator, a compelling report writer and testifier, and straightforward and ethical.
John has received over $28 million of R&D funding involving leading companies and the Government, and he has conducted numerous litigation-related investigations based on analytics and physical chemistry which provides the scientific basis for many engineering areas. John uses his training (Ph.D. in physical chemistry and post-doctoral research associate in chemical engineering) and industrial and academic experience to assess the underlying scientific principles that identify the cause and origin of accidents and product failures in a way that is more understandable, even to people with no technical expertise.
John has specialized throughout his career on investigations of multidisciplinary chemical and materials-related issues. John is an expert in materials science, advanced composite materials, building and civil construction materials, aviation materials, materials processing including sensors and controls, materials compatibility and corrosion, decorative and protective coatings, ceramics, semiconductor materials, gas sensors, tribology (the science of friction, wear, and lubrication), materials property modeling, analytics (data mining and modeling based on well-established scientific principles), experimental design, product and process design, the conduct of R&D, and intellectual property.
Clients also use Dr. Fildes to evaluate both the appropriateness and reliability of their experts' and of the opposing experts' data and opinions. Having led two scientific and licensed engineering companies conducting thousands of litigation-related technical investigations, John is one of relatively few experts with the experience to make these evaluations.
